Canada reached the Davis Cup Finals for the fifth time after hometown hero Gabriel Diallo gave them unassailable lead over Korea Republic in Montreal, while Czechia secured their place after beating Israel 3-0. Ten-time Davis Cup winners France are also through after securing the crucial third point in Sunday’s doubles match against Chinese Taipei, and Zizou Bergs defeated Croatia’s Duje Ajdukovic to confirm Belgium’s qualification.
Yesterday, 19-year-old Peruvian Ignacio Buse scored the biggest win of his career against Chile’s Nicolas Jarry, beating the world No. 20 6-2 2-6 6-3 away in Santiago. Buse’s win means the teams go into today’s second doubles 1-1, with Peru’s hopes of reaching the Davis Cup Finals for the first time very much alive. Meanwhile, Argentina and Kazakhstan are all square as they head into the fifth match after Timofei Skatov stopped the hosts from finishing off the tie by claiming victory over Francisco Cerundolo.
