In a grand unveiling at the revered Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on the cusp of 24th March 2024, the esteemed Chairman of PCB, Mohsin Naqvi, revealed the illustrious men’s selection committee set to steer the course of Pakistan cricket.
Comprised of a distinguished assembly of seven stalwarts, the selection committee boasts the meritorious presence of former Test luminaries – Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Yousuf, Abdul Razzaq, and Asad Shafiq. Alongside these seasoned veterans, the skipper and coach of the national men’s team will also grace the committee with their adept insights. Adding an innovative edge to the discerning panel, a data analyst will wield statistical prowess, aiding in informed decision-making for the selection process.
Wahab Riaz, a stalwart veteran with accolades spanning 27 Tests, 91 ODIs, and 36 T20Is, once helmed the reins of the previous selection committee. The adroit Mohammad Yousuf, having shepherded the Pakistan Men’s U19 team to glory in prestigious tournaments, brings an array of experience from his sterling records in 90 Tests, 288 ODIs, and 3 T20Is.
The erudite Asad Shafiq, recently bidding adieu to a glittering cricketing career, etched his mark in cricket lore with a rich portfolio of 77 Tests, 60 ODIs, and 10 T20Is. Similarly, Abdul Razzaq’s legacy illuminates the cricketing realm, with a stellar track record of 46 Tests, 265 ODIs, and 32 T20Is.
Embodying a democratic ethos, the committee stands united sans a designated chairman, each luminary wielding equal influence, ensuring a harmonious decision-making process.
