Squad for West Indies Women series narrowed down to 20 candidates

Ayesha Zafar, Gul Feroza, Rameen Shamim, Sidra Nawaz, and Tuba Hassan make their way back in the list of 20 potential players

The selected players will engage in a training camp in Karachi starting from 2 April

The women’s national selection committee, under the leadership of Saleem Jaffar, has disclosed the names of 20 probable players for the upcoming white-ball series against West Indies women. The series is set to occur at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi from 18 April to 3 May, featuring three ODIs – a segment of the ongoing ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25 – and five T20Is.

The ODIs will kick off on 18, 21, and 23 April at 3:30 PM, while the T20Is are scheduled for 26, 28, 30 April, 2, and 3 May at 7:30 PM.

 

Ayesha Zafar (29 ODIs, 20 T20Is), Gul Feroza (2 ODIs), Rameen Shamim (3 ODIs, 4 T20Is), Sidra Nawaz (67 ODIs, 56 T20Is), and Tuba Hassan (1 ODI, 21 T20Is) are all set for a return. On the contrary, Omaima Sohail and Shawaal Zulfiqar, recuperating from a shoulder injury, have been excluded from the probables list.

The 15-player squad for the ODI series is expected to be revealed during the Karachi camp sessions through consultation with the captain and interim head coach. The remaining five players from the probable camp will participate in the domestic Women’s One-Day Tournament in the forthcoming days.

He further added, “The upcoming series against West Indies holds significant importance, particularly with the ICC Women’s Championship matches, as we aspire to accumulate maximum points for direct entry into the ICC Women’s 50-over World Cup.”

The 20-member squad is slated to assemble in Karachi on Monday, 1 April, and will undergo a comprehensive camp from 2 April at the Hanif Mohammad High-Performance Centre. Following a break for Eid, the squad will reconvene on 13 April in Karachi.
