On August 2, 1997, the first match of the 2-Test series between Sri Lanka and India. The gas took place in Colombo. India won the toss and elected to bat first against Sri Lanka and piled up a massive 537 runs in the first innings. Seeing this score, no one could have thought Sri Lanka would give India a stronger reply. Sri Lanka opened the batting in the last session of the second day of the Test match and then by the fifth day, Sri Lanka scored 537 runs against India. In reply to scored a record 952 runs which is the highest score by any team in an innings of a Test match.
