Indian Cricket Board Secretary Jay Shah has been elected unopposed as the Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
According to the news of the French news agency AFP last week, the current chairman of the ICC, Greg Barkley, is not interested in becoming the chairman for a third term, after which Jay Shah will take charge of his position in December. On the one hand, Jay Shah is currently the Secretary of the Indian Cricket Board and on the other hand, he is also serving as the Chairman of the Asian Cricket Council.
As soon as Jay Shah takes charge of the ICC, he will have to step down not only as the BCCI secretary but also as the ACC chairman. However, the question is coming up who can replace Jai Shah in these two positions?
According to Press Trust India, Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi may replace Jay Shah as the Chairman of the Asian Cricket Council.
The final announcement is expected at the end of this year.
Sources from Press Trust India told NDTV that the Asian Cricket Council meeting will be held later this year, at which point it will be confirmed that PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi will be appointed chairman for the next two years. It should be noted that 35-year-old Jay Shah will be the youngest elected ICC chairman who will take over in December.
On being elected as the ICC Chairman, Jay Shah said, “I am determined to work together with the ICC team and the member countries of the organization to promote cricket at the international level.”
Thanking the ICC for his appointment, he added, “Our main objective is to take cricket to more countries and increase its popularity.”
